In Loving Memory of…
Alexander Charles MacLean
June 4th, 1949 – January 19th, 2026
It is with sadness that the family of Alexander Charles (Sandy) MacLean announces his passing with his two sisters by his side. He left this world in the early morning hours of January 19th, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
Alexander was born June 4th, 1949, in La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances to Murdoch and Elsa MacLean, the youngest of a blended family. He was raised and attended public and high school in Fort Frances, eventually settling in Dryden where his sisters lived and his parents had relocated to.
Alexander was a very unassuming person. He lived modestly and kept close to his faith. Always willing to help someone in need and regularly when shopping for groceries, he left more in the bin for the Dryden Food Bank than he returned home with, saying he was blessed to be able to afford food to eat and to have a roof over his head. He spent most of his time working for several local businesses doing cleaning, lawn maintenance and delivering the Thunder Bay Chronicle. He so enjoyed the many people he met and talked to on his routes. He was so pleased with those who took the time to ask about his health, sent cards and called him.
Some of Alexander’s favourite memories that he spoke of from back in the day were playing hockey, mostly Pay & Play at the Dryden Arena, playing his guitar and after hours karaoke with the Ristorante group being his favourite and most fun times.
Left to mourn his passing are his sisters Anne Dustin, Carolyn Schmidt, Shirley Plant and Agnes Champagne, also numerous nieces and nephews, some of which remained close to him.
Thank you to the Dryden Oncology Unit for your care and kindness, also Dr. Bester, Dr. Doiron and nurses so thoughtful at end of life care.
Service Monday January 26th 1:00pm Dryden Community Funeral Home followed by luncheon and internment at 2:30pm at the Dryden Cemetery
In Lieu of Flowers, Donations can be made to The Dryden Food Bank.
