Alan Woodworth November 12, 1960 - January 22, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Alan Robert Woodworth, who left us far too soon. Born and raised in Dryden, Ontario, Alan was a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew him, bringing laughter, kindness, and love wherever he went.

Alan lived life fully, embracing his passions with boundless enthusiasm and creativity. He had a way of making everyone feel deeply valued, always ending conversations with “I love you” to ensure no one doubted how much they meant to him. His heart was expansive, and his love touched family, friends, and his entire community.

Growing up in Dryden, Alan experienced heartbreak at a young age when his father, Algernon, passed away. As the second oldest of what became six siblings, Alan was not just a big brother but a guiding figure for his siblings, instilling in them the importance of love, fun, and family. This early loss shaped Alan’s perspective on life—he lived it with adventure, and a deep care for others.

Alan’s love of life was evident in everything he did. He was happiest outdoors, camping for weeks in the rugged wilderness of Northwest Ontario, fishing, and sharing his love of nature with family and friends.

He inherited his creativity and artistic vision from his mother, Carol, and found joy in photography, capturing the expansive beauty of nature and the quiet, magical moments of life. His photos reflected the way he saw the world—both vast and intimate, exhilarating and serene.

Music was another passion that defined Alan’s life. His love for all genres was as eclectic as his love for the many different types of people in his life. Whether finding peace in the quiet of nature or dancing with friends to his favourite tunes, he was a person of vibrant dualities.

Above all, Alan’s greatest pride and joy were his daughters— Amanda, Megan, and Madison— and his cherished granddaughters, Naomi and Blaire. His love for them was limitless, and every conversation with Alan brimmed with pride as he shared stories of their lives. He revelled in spending time with them, whether camping, or simply caring for and supporting them in their daily lives.

He adored his granddaughters and captured incredible photos of them, often handing them sparklers to create magical moments, just as photography had sparked a passion in his own heart—one he lovingly shared with them.

Alan’s dedication to others extended beyond his family. He devoted over 35 years to the Dryden Regional Health Centre, where his work supported the hospital’s mission of care. His friendships with colleagues reflected the compassion and camaraderie he brought to every part of his life.

Alan was predeceased by his father Algernon (Algie) Woodworth, his father Roy Orvis, and his beloved mother, Carol Orvis (née Henshaw). He shared a deep and mutual love with each of his parents. He is survived by his three daughters, Amanda (Thomas), Megan, and Madison (Jayden); his granddaughters Naomi and Blaire; his siblings Sally (Blaine), Cary (Cheryl), Brad, sister-in-law Margot, Shelby, and Guinevere (Allen); his niblings David, Sarah (Christian), Melody, Kara (Holly), Thomas (Paige), Joshua, Steph, Jeremy (Kerstin), Isla, and Adeston; and his great-niblings, Novalie, Louie-Francois, Ava, Armand, Taneal, and Eowyn, and many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Alan, may you find love in reunion with your parents. Your light, your laughter, and your love will stay with us always.

Rest in peace old friend. Together we shared so many adventures. Growing up in Dryden, our banana bikes provided the freedom to go just about anywhere, as long as we were home for supper. You had the coolest one for sure, a Fastback 100 with a pair of home crafted extended forks
( of dubious origin ) that made you the undisputed wheelie champion. Remember, Pitts hobby shop on Saturday’s to spend our allowances on models and paint, fishing at flat rock, swimming at Sandy Beach, and picking blueberries at Milanese’s bush? Thanks Al, for being kind and funny, for great memories, and for being my friend.
