Phyllis Wood October 25, 1925 - August 8, 2024

Date of Funeral

August 15, 2024

Peacefully at Princess Court Long Term Care Home, Dryden, Ontario on Thursday August 8, 2024, in her 98th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Harold Wood (1995). A loving mother of Rachel and her husband Chris Kapteyn, James and his wife Lynne, and Paul and his wife Wendy. Grandmother of Andrea, Leanne, Adam, Nathan, Thomas, Shenton, and Matthew, and great grandmother to 13 grandchildren.

She was born in Dryden, the second daughter of four, to Ralph and Louisa Hadley. At a young age she was employed at the Regis Bag factory before venturing out to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) to attend a secretarial course, which led to her many years in the Dryden Mill office. She was very active in her church beginning with her early days at the Anglican Church, and then many wonderful years with good friends at the First Baptist Church, and in her later years, at the Lutheran Church with her son. She was a wonderful cook, baker, and hostess, (known to her children and grandchildren for her macaroni and cheese), and strong support of her husband, Harold, when he went into the pastoral ministry where they served for ten years in Emo and Barwick, Ontario. The family has a great appreciation for the staff and volunteers of Princess Court where Phyllis spent the last four years. Dryden is very blessed to have such a caring place in the community.

A Christian Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church starting at 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Montague officiating. Interment to follow at the Dryden Cemetery.

I have fond memories of Phyllis when I was growing up. My mother, Muriel Wheatley (Sherwood) and Phyllis were very good friends. They worked together in the Regis bag factory and had lots of fun. I couldn’t pronounce her name so I always called her Fuddy. She was a lovely lady.❤️
