On Saturday, July 27th, 2024, Terry passed away peacefully at Dryden Regional Health Centre (DHRC) with his wife Joanne holding his hand.
Terry will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 63 years Joanne. His daughter Karen (Greg) Bell and their children Hilary (Sabrina), Bryce (Abby) and Kathleen (Joba). Also, by daughter Colleen (Darren) Oliphant and their children Natalie (Kameron) and Graham. Terry was a patient and kind man and those characteristics set the framework for him to be an exceptional husband, father, and Gedo. It was important to him to create moments in our lives that we could remember, cherish, and tell stories about when we gathered at his table at Ross Street. Some of the most memorable moments being graduations, weddings, trips to the Bell cottage and his recent bucket list trip to Alaska.
Terry came from a family of thirteen (13), made up of his seven (7) brothers and five (5) sisters. He is survived, and fondly remembered by his sisters Stella and Mildred, his sisters-in-law Irene and Marcia (Allan) and twenty-two (22) nieces and nephews.
Terry was born on March 7, 1938, in Rossburn, Manitoba to Alex and Anasthasia (Nellie) Kohuch. He grew up on the family farm and homestead where no matter how old you were, you had chores to do to earn your keep. The family then moved to Winnipeg where Terry met the love of his life Joanne who was a teacher in St. Vital, Winnipeg. He somehow convinced her to come with him to the booming industry town of Dryden, Ontario in 1961 where he was on staff at the Dryden Paper Mill until his retirement. They built a home and then started their young family. Friendships were formed in their neighbourhood and through many social activities in the community like golf, curling, fishing, skiing, and service clubs where Terry served as President of the Lion’s Club in 1980. Terry and Joanne loved their retirement years in Palm Desert, California where they spent the winter months for over 20 years. They were “snowbirds” in the community of Palm Desert Greens Country Club meeting so many new friends from all parts of the world. The true essence of Terry was family, friendship and being together. His kindness and caring are the hallmarks of a truly gentle and incredible man.
The family wishes to thank the outstanding care team at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. Doctor Barrie, the incredible and compassionate nursing staff, and nursing students and all those who supported us through Dad’s end of life journey. Your dedication and empathy shown when caring for others is something you should truly be proud of.

I spent many days in a fishing boat with Terry all across Northwestern Ontario. He was one of my favourite guys to fish with. Quiet, competent and tons of fun. I have so many memories with him. I will let another of his old time fishing buddies, Kevin Nichol know of his passing.
Kevin has told me that he learned so much about fishing from Terry. So many fond memories.
