Henry Louis Girard

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Louis Girard on January 17, 2018, age 74 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre with his family by his side.

Henry was born on March 8, 1942 in Chicoutimi, Quebec. He moved to Ontario in his early 20’s to pursue work. Not knowing any English, he taught himself by reading comic books. Henry was a very hard working man. He spent many years in forestry operating the skidder and later moving onto the pipelines building roads and hauling.

Henry met Esther, whom he loved from day one in 1985. They married in 1995 after Esther won in BINGO, which was one of Henry’s favourite past times. Along with family and friend gatherings, odd jobs to keep busy, camping trips and fishing. In fact, he loved fishing so much he made his wife throw back her big fish so he could keep his (which was smaller) to mount on the wall.

Henry is survived by his wife Esther of 35 years, his daughters Angela Dickson of Dryden, ON, Sheena Catlin of Winnipeg, MB, Cora Defouw (Alec) of Savana, BC and Esabella Catlin of Winnipeg, MB, his sister Madeleine Bouchard of Chicoutimi, QC. Three nephews from Quebec, grandchildren Chalice, Athena and Eric as well as many friends. Henry was predeceased by both of his parents Adrien and Marguerite.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A luncheon in honour of Henry’s life will be held on Monday, January 22nd, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at the Ukrainian Hall. Interment will take place at a later date.
