Doris Meawasige September 9, 1951 - September 14, 2020

Condolences may be posted at www.dcfh.ca or sent to mail@dcfh.ca subject heading: Meawasige

It is with extreme sadness we announce the sudden passing of Doris Meawasige.  Doris was known to so many for her kind personality.  She was always the life of the celebration, whatever that may have been. She loved to sing, dance and make you laugh whenever she could.  Her laugh was contagious and could uplift you anytime she was around.  Doris loved to help people in whatever way she could. She offered a hand to anyone who may have needed it.  One of her favourite things to do was chat.  If you had the time, Doris would talk your ear off.  She shared many stories, life experiences and advice she could offer. One thing she was extremely proud of was, her many years of sobriety.  She was always willing to help someone who struggled with addiction and the difficulties surrounding it.  She would steer them in the right direction.  She was a firm believer in the Lord and believed in the power of faith. She would always advise anyone who was lost or struggling to just have faith and the right path would be easy to find. She took great pride in family, especially the kids.  She talked highly of her grandchildren and her great nieces and nephews.  The kids knew they would never be able to compete with the rock-skipping champion.  Doris was always there by your side to offer support, whether it be a struggle or an achievement.  She was your biggest supporter.  Her heart was so big and she always had something to offer or give with hopes to bringing some happiness to your life.  Her smile was contagious and her laughter was unique.  Doris loved to talk and reminisce when she could and often had the best stories.  When she left a room or from a visit she would always kick her back leg up, wave and you could hear her saying “bye bye.”  I am positive she was doing that as she left us to the spirit world.

She leaves behind so many people who will never forget her.   Doris is survived by her sons Jason & Bobby (Bonnie), her grandchildren Tristen, Amber, Storm & Brittany; her siblings, Evelyn (Nick), Doreen, Emily (Ernie), Mary Jane (Hycienth), and Frank (Virgie), numerous nieces, nephews, great/great-great nieces and nephews, her BC family, and several family members from Blind River, Serpent River, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay & Toronto and many friends and acquaintances.  She was predeceased by her parents Paul & Catherine Meawasige and siblings Emily (baby), Paul Meawasige, Raymond Meawasige, Rose McIvor, Virginia Cook, Jim Parenteau and Gerry Harrison.

“I saw the light, no more darkness, no more night.”

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Wabigoon Métis Cultural Centre with Father Alan Campeau Officiating.

Interment will follow in the Wabigoon Cemetery.

Doris I will always remember you and your awesome computer. Your wonderful photos and stories to go with each one. I wish we had connected more of late. You will always be remembered as the awesome wonderful gal who needed that wee bit of assist with the computer to save those wonderful interesting photos you had. I will always remember that you asked me to help and how gracious you were when I came to work away with you for the afternoon at your home. May you always be there and watching how other people have way more problems with their computers that you ever had! LOL I will forever remember that wonderful laugh of yours!
